Absolutely. Not to discriminate against those terribly unfortunate to have not received basic education but literacy is essential to making an informed decision. If one did not read about the issues and candidates and just believed everything they heard on the news, they would be making a compromised decision. America has a public school system and many organizations dedicated to eradicating illiteracy so if someone who is illiterate really cared about making an informed decision they would probably learn to read. Some may say that this is discriminating against those who were unable to learn. However, in this modern day and age I feel that there are enough resources for someone to learn.

I agree that there should be not literacy test but i do feel it is important for citizens to be well informed in what they are voting on.
ReplyDeleteI think that there should not be a literacy test. One does not have to be literate in order to have an opinion and they have the right to voice that opinion and vote for the person he or she wants in office. Illiterate people should still have a say in government because they are still citizens of this nation.
ReplyDeleteIf somebody can't read then how are they expected to vote. Voting involves reading. The ballot is written in English. Maybe they can learn to read like I mentioned in the post above.
ReplyDeletei completely agree because otherwise they would make poor decisions like you said which could directly affect what props get passed and which candidates get the nomination/presidency.
